FAQ’s
About the registration
When can I register?
The third run of Of witches and wizards will run from 9-12 april 2026. Registration will open from the 1st of may 2025.
How many spots are there?
We are currently planning with 52 participants.
Is the setting part of the Harry Potter universe? Or is it lovecraftian in some way?
It is neither. We aim to tell a unique story of witches and wizards in a ficticious 1920 Germany. You will not find any cosmic horrors nor do we claim any connection to J.K. Rowling.
What about characters?
The characters are prewritten by us. This includes predefined connections to other characters, conflicts and obstacles. We are using the Content-Larp concept, that has been used for “Legion: Siberian Story” and “De La Bête” among others. If you want to know about it you can follow this link: http://manifest.larpy.cz/en/.
How does registration and character distribution work?
1.) From 1st may onwards you can register yourself via our website. In the past the places went fast, but as always we expect some drop outs along the way for which we will maintain a waitinglist.
In the registration you will be asked what kind of play you would like. (i.e. If you want your focus the be on intrigue, romantic or social conflicts. Or what gender you want your character to be etc.)
2.) The slots will be distributed in order of registration. Everyone with a slot will recieve an email confirming the spot. Included in that mail are the payment details and they then have 4 weeks to pay the fee.
3.) As you probably already know, we prepare the characters and their relationships in advance. After the payment period, we will send you three character suggestions, where you can indicate your preference as to which character you would or would not like to play. We will then accommodate these as best we can.
What do I have to do to get a subsidized ticket?
A subsidized ticket option is offered during regular registration. We have a limited number of subsidized tickets available for participants who cannot afford the full price, for example, because they have no or low income, are students, still in school, etc. These tickets offer the same level of participation and do not mean you will experience a less spectacular LARP. These tickets cost €100 per person.
About the characters
I would like to play my own character!
That’s expressly not an option. All characters at the event are prepared and written by us. This isn’t because we don’t trust you to be able to do it, but because we want to create certain conflict and drama.
May I wish for a connection to a certain player?
Unfortunately, we can’t offer this option. You’ll receive links to many characters, and the choice of characters depends primarily on things like „desired playstyle and desired gameplay.“ If you desire completely different playstyles and gameplay, the likelihood that you’ll play with that player is rather low. On the other hand, if you have very similar gameplay preferences, this naturally increases the likelihood that you’ll receive an associated character.
What’s important to us: You should base your gameplay preferences on YOUR needs, not on the needs of your friends/partners/spouses/passengers. The convention is expensive, and everyone’s game will be better if you like your character and enjoy playing them. Don’t ruin the experience by playing something you don’t enjoy.
Does the event provide any kit?
We are not providing any costumes for this event.
We are collecting templates, examples, and tips to help you create your costume and accessories. After registering, you will receive a guide to the fashion of witches and wizards in Germany in the 1920s. In general, we don’t aim for an authentic representation of 1920s fashion, but rather a rough 1920s flair. However, we recognize that witches and wizards have eccentric fashion tastes that can be more modern or more old-fashioned. Selected characters will receive special items of equipment from us that are relevant to the story or their plot, such as letters, special valuables, or magical artifacts.
What about magic wands? Do you provide them?
You must bring your own wands; they definitely don’t have to be made of latex; no one will be hitting each other with them. We’ve had everything from hand-turned wooden wands and pretty store-bought hairpins to elaborate replicas in various media for our first runs. We’ve already prepared a small selection of wands for our wand maker, which can be used as promotional material or for sales pitches, so no one needs to travel with additional wands.
What happens if I can’t come at short notice but don’t have a substitute player?
It’s very important to us that all characters are in play, as the relationships between the characters are very tightly woven. After the cancellation period, we will try to find a spontaneous replacement to take your place so that the conflicts and relationships still function. Since each character is important, we don’t require the player to take on your contribution, but rather allocate the places based on the „pay what you want“ principle. This money then goes to you. However, we cannot predict how much this will be in advance.
What happens if my character dies?
No one should die before dinner on the second day of play (Sunday for the German run and Saturday for the international run). Before that, everyone involved will only be injured but not die.
Experience has shown that the convention will also end one to two hours later.
For players of deceased characters, there is an Outgame room for rest, drinks, and conversation.
Travel
Can you pick me up from the airport or trainstation?
We will try to offer a pick-up option at the Lalendorf (Lübeck-Szczecin/Stettin) and Langhagen (Rostock-Berlin-Südkreuz) train stations.
Can I arrive at the location before the arrival date?
This isn’t possible, as we only booked the house from Thursday onwards. If in doubt, you can contact the house and book a room for one night.
Can I come later? Can I come on Friday?
Unfortunately, late arrivals are not possible. We are planning a number of workshops on Thursday starting around 5pm that are important for the rest of the game and that all participants should definitely attend. Participation without these workshops is not possible and would not be beneficial for the gaming experience for you and all other participants.
At the event
I am a vegetarian/vegan/allergic, can I get something to eat?
We’ll be using the on-site kitchen and a catering service. Vegan and kosher options are currently available. If you have any concerns, please contact us via email. We’re committed to ensuring that all participants receive good, filling food.
Is there any game content that could potentially be challenging for me as a participant?
We’re hosting a LARP about racism, nationalism, and feminism. The negative aspects of these topics, such as autocracies, sexism, homophobia, misogyny, and exclusion, are part of this event. When registering, you can indicate how much of this you want to experience in your game. However, it will never be zero, and even if your character isn’t a perpetrator/victim, you’ll still see it at the convention.
What is explicitly not a topic at this convention is sexual violence.
Can I bring my children?
We’ve received several inquiries about this topic and have discussed it extensively. LARP should be inclusive, open, and accessible to everyone. Everyone in the organization believes that children have a place in LARP in general.
But not every LARP and its themes are suitable for children. Given the themes and plot development of this event, we believe a minimum age of 18 is appropriate.
Can I bring my pet?
Unfortunately, the house does not allow pets.
What kind of larp weaponry is allowed at the event?
Foam LARP weapons are permitted. They must meet standard safety standards and be used with common sense. Please keep in mind that the convention is not a war but an invitation to a sophisticated environment, so very few characters will bring many weapons. We will either point this out to characters who own such weapons or provide them ourselves.
